Labour Party Slams Deji Adeyanju, Says Obi Blackmail is Driven by “Unbridled Ambition”

 

The Labour Party has accused activist Deji Adeyanju of mounting a campaign of lies and blackmail against its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, for the sake of personal ambition and political patronage.

In a statement signed by Prince Tony Akeni, Interim National Publicity Secretary of the party, Labour described Adeyanju’s conduct as “worse than substance abuse,” arguing that his obsession with attacking Obi is motivated by greed and desperation.

“Ambition without principle is worse than substance abuse. It is as dangerous or more dangerous than narcotics, because it distorts rational thinking and actions at a cost to society,” Akeni declared.

The party alleged that Adeyanju has aligned himself with President Bola Tinubu’s allies, including Daniel Bwala and Reno Omokri, in what it called a desperate bid to gain financial favour and position ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement also dismissed Adeyanju’s recent allegation that Obi admitted to corruption during a private meeting in 2022. Labour Party insisted that journalist Ike Abonyi, who witnessed the meeting, has publicly confirmed that no such confession ever took place.

On Adeyanju’s claim that Obi attempted to bribe him, Labour argued that any gesture extended during the meeting would have been a traditional expression of hospitality rather than corruption.

“To convert a cultural act of courtesy into an arsenal of blackmail is malevolent, duplicitous and despicable,” the statement said.

The Labour Party further accused Adeyanju of hypocrisy, noting that he once hailed Obi as Nigeria’s best presidential candidate but has now chosen to side with Tinubu, whose political machinery it blamed for violence and intimidation during recent elections.

Reiterating its confidence in Obi and the Obidient movement, the party said Adeyanju’s campaign of attacks would not succeed in misleading Nigerians.
