SDP Presidential Candidate Addresses Clergymen on Being Steadfast

Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has urged the church to be more prayerful rather than political.

He stated that the outcome of politics will be determined by the church because the quality of Christians produced by the church is the key to resolving Nigeria's problems.

Prince Adewole Adebayo announced this on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at the 31st General Assembly and Standing Committee of the Christian Council of Nigeria, Basilica of St. Andrew Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion Trans Ekulu, Enugu.

He also encouraged the church to remain steadfast in the face of adversity, knowing that these times would pass.

He said, “The politics we are facing now, it is not the politics or the outcome of the politics that will save the church, only God can save the church. It is the church that will save politics. Therefore, let us not worry, let us be calm, let us listen to the voice of Christ”.

He also warned the church to be cautious, saying that the person who will assume leadership in 2023 will come from God's house.

“I will say that the church has one tool, which politics doesn't have - the church has the ministration of God, the revelation that comes from our clergymen, our leaders”.

Speaking on the theme 'Christ's love compels us,' Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, urged politicians running for office to look out for Nigeria's peace and unity, as well as the vulnerable and needy in society.

He said, “The church must continue to admonish politicians to demonstrate passion for the wellbeing of all Nigerians. With a great sense of responsibility and accountability, let us continue to be the watch persons to ensure good governance in our nation”.

Aside from Prince Adebayo, presidential candidates and their representatives in attendance included: Ambassador Adiye C Adiye of the Accord Party, Barrister Idris Imenomo of the NYPP, and Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Among those in attendance were the Most Reverend Dr. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, Arch Bishop Chukwuma, CAN President Daniel Okoh, and Her Excellency, Lolo Cecelia Ezeilo, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State.

Sen. Ugochukwu Uba, Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung (Campaign DG), and Godwin Osigbeme accompanied Prince Adebayo.
