Abuja — The National Political Summit scheduled for Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in Abuja has gained even stronger momentum, as the Nigerian Presidency, accredited foreign missions, eminent Nigerians, political activists and major political stakeholders have already submitted their various interventions to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for inclusion in the summit agenda.
The LOC said in Abuja on Sunday that the summit is now emerging as Nigeria’s principal platform for popular diplomacy and national reform in response to the growing international tensions triggered by President Donald J. Trump’s threat over rising insecurity and killings in Nigeria.
According to feelers from the LOC, senior officials from the Presidency, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), sitting and former Governors, Chairmen of National Assembly electoral reform committees, presidential aspirants, and envoys of foreign missions and development partners are expected to storm the Conference Hall of the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Diplomatic missions from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Commonwealth, ECOWAS, African Union and other international friends of Nigeria have also been invited to attend the opening ceremony — a development organisers say reflects the urgent need for global goodwill towards Nigeria’s democratic reset.
The SGF is expected to lead the federal government delegation, while the Nigeria Governors’ Forum is mobilising select governors to attend physically. The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and heads of National Assembly constitutional amendment committees are also confirmed, as summit accreditations have now crossed the original projection of 500 delegates.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan is billed to chair the summit, while former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will deliver the keynote address.
A special “National Security Session” has been added to interrogate the diplomatic weight of Trump’s remarks, with experts examining the security implications of Nigeria’s deteriorating global perception. Organisers say the summit will conclude with a unified national declaration demanding specific constitutional reforms to guarantee stability and credible elections in 2027.
